When I first started reading about Bitcoin, I was easily overwhelmed. It seemed like many websites I came across fell into one of two categories. They were either looking to trick me to take my money, or were written by a person who might be studying computer science otherwise known as a nerd.
Now I understand that many aspects of the Bitcoin require a good understanding of computers and that most of these ‘nerds’ are trying to help, but the learning curve is steep. Since one of the major goals of Bitcoin Story is to carefully educate those who are curious about Bitcoin (and who aren’t computer experts), I decided to categorize the information provided on this website with a scale of difficulty known as The Nerdometer.
Each article is rated on a scale of 1-5 with 1 being the least detailed or nerdy and 5 being incredibly nerdy like something you would find on bitcointalk.org. Since I will be writing most of the articles for Bitcoin Story, the majority of information will be focused on the less nerdy side of the spectrum.
I will now describe each level of the Nerdometer:
Nerdometer 1: These articles are written for people with little to no knowledge of Bitcoin. They will be considered introductory with a few how-tos and are mainly for basic educational purposes such as how to actually acquire some Bitcoins.
Nerdometer 2: The second level on the spectrum will begin to include basic how-tos and comparisons or descriptions of what can be done once a person actually has some Bitcoins.
Nerdometer 3: This level will still be focused on Bitcoin basics, but will begin to touch on the details of mining, investing, and alt-coins.
Nerdometer 4: More detailed how-to’s will be included in this level. Programming basics and other more nerdy subject matter will be discussed. Math and philosophy will begin to increase.
Nerdometer 5: These articles are meant for people with a general knowledge of Bitcoin. They will most-likely be written by experts in the field and are geared towards refining and updating information about cryptocurrency in all aspects.
I hope that following my Bitcoin Story and how-to’s will naturally lead people into more detailed information without being too intimidating. In my experience, my inquiries into the realm of cryptocurrency have became more detailed and exciting as I laid down a simple foundation of understanding. The Nerdometer is designed to be a tool to help avoid disillusion. If you are looking to start learning the basics, checking out the Nerdometer 1 category on this website is a great place to start!
